Respect is at the heart of healthy, inclusive, productive work environments. A Pew Research Center study released in March 2022 showed that 57% of workers who left their jobs in 2021 gave “feeling disrespected” as one of the reasons for the decision to leave.

Respect isn’t just about being nice or polite. Respect goes much deeper than that. Respect means understanding that we all have different backgrounds, perspectives, experiences and ideas. Respect means treating others with dignity and honesty, even when it’s hard. We all have the ability and the responsibility to treat one another with respect.

Respecting one another’s differences and the dimensions of diversity without judgment or bias builds inclusion and supports belonging. When you respect others, you create an environment where people can thrive. When individuals feel respected, they feel more confident and empowered to bring their whole selves to their work.

Choosing Respect in the Workplace builds the awareness of the impact respect and disrespect have on the employee experience. It examines and discusses individuals’ own experiences in a safe and supportive learning space.
