Nobody Wants to Talk About it:  Race, Identity and the Difficulties in Forging Meaningful Conversations

We need to talk about it now more than any other time in our history.  Please join us as we have the unique opportunity to spend time with Michael Fosberg: author, stage actor and identity and dialogue expeditioner to learn more about his recent book, Nobody Wants to Talk About It:  Race, Identity and the Difficulties in Forging Meaningful Conversations.

Many of you know Michael from his first book, INCOGNITO: An American Odyssey of Race and Self-Discovery, and his autobiographical one-man play. The play chronicles his journey to find his biological father and to discover his family’s African American roots. Having been raised thinking he was white, this sudden discovery of his Black roots had implications beyond simply his own identity. By performing both Black & White characters, intentionally incorporating suggestive racial stereotypes, candidly examining passing, covering, White privilege and code switching, he challenges audiences to openly discuss these issues while also acknowledging their common bonds.

Michael’s fifteen-year journey performing his play, allowed him to engage people in meaningful conversations about how we see ourselves and others, and the ways in which we do and don’t talk about race and identify.  In his new book, Michael leverages what he learned traveling across the country to provoke conversations about race and identity to culminate in seven helpful tools to assist us in navigating these difficult conversations.

Listen in as we discover more about Michael’s journey and what we can all learn about engaging in these difficult conversations.
