In a recent poll by Career Systems Intl, 76% of employees surveyed tell us that they spend less than two hours a month focused on developing their career. A pretty remarkable metric when organizations around the world are busy promoting the message, “employees own their career.”
So, what gives? Why aren’t employees doing more? One answer, I don’t have time. Another, I simply don’t know what to do or where to go to get started. Despite all our efforts to keep it simple and help employees take action around their careers, we sometimes do too much and give too much. You’ve heard of too much of a good thing, right?
What is too much? In the many Focus Groups we’ve conducted with managers and employees, we often hear that both parties want their organizations to “keep it simple, connect the dots, make it easy to find, easy to use, and keep it real.”
Career Systems Intl is working to “keep it real and keep it simple” with the introduction of its new career development portal, GROWhere™. Our new portal presents common career situations for both employees and managers and directs users to specific tools and relevant resources based on their actual need. It’s a practical and flexible tool designed to engage users in short, interactive activities – minutes, not hours required.
In this fast-paced world, the way we get and use information is changing. Employees need access to career development resources when it’s convenient and they need it to be easy to use and easy to find. How are you getting the message out to your employees and how many hours a month are they spending on their careers? It’s just not enough to say, “Own it!” They want it when they want it, where they want it. GROWhere™ can help!
